Gordon Tyrrall

new album of traditional instrumental acoustic guitar music

Jackdaw Grooves

"a fresh approach - his playing is never less than impeccable" - Acoustic Feb 2008

" a terrific guitarist" - fRoots May 2008

I've been deeply involved in traditional music since the 1970s,and although I've been in various bands,of late I have concentrated on working with the beautiful voice of Maggie Boyle, and with squeeze box supremo Brian Peters,in two seperate duos.I have also been keeping up the solo work.

My latest recording, and eighth solo album,is my first record of guitar music - although it's not guitar music really, but traditional tunes, mainly dance music, arranged for acoustic guitar. Most of these are,I believe, previously unrecorded - at least on guitar. I used to play mostly irish music but my interests now have focussed on english material - from the stately dances of the Playford collection, first published in 1651, through to tunes collected in the first decade of the twentieth century by Frank Kidson in Leeds.I'm from Yorkshire, and live in Leeds,so I've tried to include a high proportion of music from these parts. There's a couple of my favourite scottish sets of tunes in amongst them too.

My previous album was a collection of mainly traditional songs and tunes,

featuring a certain amount of electronic tomfoolery, called "Drive Old Puss Away"
